Research Interests:

My research interests include the effects of alcohol on emotion regulation and cognitive processes; in particular, I hope to study (employing EEG/ERP, EMG, tand fMRI) the mechanisms by which acute alcohol intoxication can lead to dysregulated behavior such as violence, sexual risk-taking, and general impulsivity.  My most recent project examined the differential effects of alcohol on fear and anxiety. (you can view a poster on this study by clicking [PDF] or the article here [PDF] )  The next step in this program of research will examine the long-term effects of alcohol dependence on the brain's stress systems; specifically, whether alterations seen during acute intoxication continue into periods of protracted abstinence.
