Alcohol Study Information
Thanks for your interest in our study. Here's some more
information about this study so you can decide whether you'd like to be
involved.
In this study, we are interested in examining vigilance behavior.
The experiment is comprised of two brief (approximately 30
minute) lab sessions where we take physiological measures while you
perform a computer-based vigilance task. Depending on the
condition to which you are assigned, you may be required to consume
alcohol.
This study involves a moderately high dose of alcohol (roughly 6 drinks
in a 160 lb man in two hours) and consequently, we require all
participants to stay overnight at one of the UW Research Clinics.
You would need to arrive at our lab around 6pm in the evening and
participate in one brief lab session before we would bring you to the
clinic. At the clinic, you would drink and be free to spend the evening
watching TV, DVDs, using a laptop with internet access that we provide,
or reading/working on whatever you wish to bring with you.
The following morning, a cab would pick you up from the clinic at 10am
and bring you back to our lab for the second (and final) brief lab
session. Your participation would be complete by about 12pm.
The pay for this study is a flat rate of $150, whether or not you
are assigned to the alcohol group.
If you are interested, please e-mail your
name and
phone number to
amgrant@wisc.edu. We will then get in touch with you and ask you a few questions to determine if you are eligible for the study.
Thank you again for your interest,
Kathryn Hefner (study coordinator)
