Using the BAL Calculator to Determine Alcohol Dose

The BAL calculator software is installed on all workstations in the workroom.

1. Go to the start menu and select the BAL Calculator shortcut

2. After the BAL Calculator opens, press the BEGIN button

3. Select the INPUT PARAMETERS menu option

4. Select the participant's gender, and indicate their height (in inches), weight (in lbs), and age (in years)

5. Fill in the "Other Information" about the dosing parameters. These parameters may vary from study to study and you should consult the SOP for the specific study for more information.

6. After filling in the "Other Information", press the CALCULATE NOW button

7. Record the three results under "Dosing Results" (alcohol dose, mixer and total volumes) on the session form

8. Press the FINISH button and then exit the program
