Computer Set-up for New Study

Server

  1. If it does not already exist, on the server under StudyData create a folder with the study name.
  2. Create a subfolder called RawData.

Stimulus Control Computer (PTB/MATLAB)

Edited for new Win 7 OS

  1. Turn off screen saver. In the control panel, search for "Screen" and choose "Turn the screen saver on or off." In the Screen Saver tab, that pops up, set Screen Saver = None and hit okay.
  2. Set sound settings. In the Control Panel search "Sounds" and select "Change system sounds". In the Sounds tab set Sounds Scheme to "No Sounds" and hit okay. (if prompted to save, click No).
  3. Under "Adjust system volume" Set the speaker volumes to 50%
  4. Calibrate startle probe volume if used for study
  5. Configure Windows Explorer.
    1. Open an explorer window. Click the view icon and set the display to Details.
    2. On the Organize button, hit "Folder and Search Options"
    3. A window will come up. In View tab under "Hidden Files and Folders" Change it to "Show hidden files and folders".
    4. Un-check Hide extensions for known file types.
    5. At the top click Apply to Folders.
  6. Create shortcut to windows explorer on desktop
  7. Map \\dionysus\Private as network drive (P:)
  8. Create shortcuts to local study directory; study raw data directory on server
  9. Map local folder on physio computer to Stimulus Control computer under "N" using Stimulus Control Computer's share path
  10. Search 'Notification Area Icons' in Control Panel. Turn everything in each subsection to 'Hide icon and notifications'
  11. Go to System Icons and turn OFF all icons in all sections except for the Clock
  12. Unpin all programs from the taskbar, add them as desktop shortcuts instead.
  13. Set the Screen Resolution to 1024x768
  14. On the desktop create a shortcut to the study directory on server

Neuroscan

  1. Login as administrator. Confirm that you are in the CURTIN Workgroup (Control Panel > System > Computer Name). Restart computer
  2. Turn off screen saver. Right click on empty space on the Desktop. Click Properties, Screen Saver tab, Screen Saver = None.
  3. Set sound settings. In the Control Panel-> Sounds and Audio Devices. Volume tab uncheck the Show volume control option. In the Sounds tab set Sounds Scheme to No Sounds (if prompted to save, click No).
  4. Configure Windows Explorer. Click View -> Details. Click Tools -> Folder Options. In View tab uncheck Remember each folders view settings, Hide extensions for known file types. Check Show hidden files and folders. In Windows Explorer click the tools menu and Folder Options. In Folders View click Apply to All Folders.
  5. Map the pub as network drive
  6. Create local study directory in C:\Local\ on the Neuroscan computer. Set folder security by this by right clicking on the local study folder (ie; C:\Local\Kaye1) and right-click, Share With - then check the Dolores and the RA account
    1. Within that folder save the setup file for Neuroscan format StudyName_SN_Setup.ast (for example Kaye1_NS_Setup.ast)
    2. Also within that folder create a new folder called <Studyname>RawData (for example Kaye1RawData).
