Drinking Behavior Survey (DBS) Resources

This is a five-item measure designed to assess the quantity and frequency of drinking behavior among institutionalized individuals. No total score or scale scores result from this questionnaire.

Data Entry Instructions

For each participant, enter the following information:

Column 1: Participant ID #

Column 2: Length of time in prison, recorded in months

Column 3: Length of time in drug and alcohol program, (DAP), recorded in months

Column 4: Average frequency of drinking occasions per month prior to arrest. Items listed in weeks are converted to months. See below for coding of responses:

Column 5: Average quantity of drinks per occasion prior to arrest. Item responses of 0-6 coded 0-6 respectively. For items 7-9 use the following coding:

Column 6: Length of time since last drink, recorded in months
